What is a Certified Peer and Family Specialist?
A Certified Peer and Family Specialist is someone with lived experience who supports others who are struggling. This can include substance use, mental health, suicidal ideation or self-harm, domestic violence, sexual assault, or other life challenges. Certified Peer and Family Specialist (CPFS) is a non-clinical role in behavioral health. It’s about encouragement, goal setting, and connecting people to resources.
How to become a Certified Peer and Family Specialist?
Acquire certification through a nationally accredited training program offered by Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR). This certification provides the skills, ethics, and foundation needed to begin working as a Certified Peer and Family Specialist.
